Your business profile and website should tell the same accurate story: what you do, where you work and how a customer can reach you.

What your business profile should answer

A potential customer usually wants to confirm that you provide the right service in their area and are available through a reliable contact route. Review your official business name, category, phone number, opening hours, website and service area. Only represent locations and services that you actually operate.

Google describes relevance, distance and prominence as factors in local results. Completing business information can improve usefulness and eligibility, but nobody can promise a specific Maps ranking. Refer to Google's local-ranking guidance for the platform's own description.

Make the website support the profile

The homepage should explain your service, intended customers, genuine coverage area and a clear next action. Give important services useful dedicated pages rather than repeating the same generic phrase across every town. A business profile should link to a working site that helps customers make a decision.

If the profile sends customers to a homepage that hides contact details, adding more keywords to the profile will not repair the experience. Test the path from a Maps listing to the correct service page, mobile phone link or quote form.

Keep hours and contact details synchronized

Create one small checklist for any business change: update the website, Google Business Profile and other channels you actively maintain. Holiday hours and temporary closures deserve attention. A wrong phone number can waste advertising budgets as easily as a broken contact form.

Where a business serves customers at their location, the published address should be accurate. Service-area businesses need a profile configuration that reflects their real operating model and Google's rules.

Use reviews and photography responsibly

Upload authentic, relevant photographs when possible. Reply professionally to legitimate reviews, including criticism, without exposing private customer information. Never create fake feedback, buy reviews or display certification and award badges you cannot substantiate.

A service page can add context that a short business profile cannot: scope of work, appointment process, exclusions, verified experience and practical questions. That is where the website can earn trust beyond a star rating.

Measure actions that matter

With appropriate analytics and privacy practices, examine which pages receive search visits and which produce useful inquiries. Search Console can show the queries and pages seen in Google Search, but search impressions are not the same as bookings or contracts.

Set a simple monthly check: accurate contact details, links working on mobile, current service pages, genuine reviews, relevant searches and qualified inquiry follow-through. Pair this with our local service website inquiry guide.

When the hours don't match

A Maps listing says open while the website says closed. The customer loses confidence before calling. Assign one person to update hours, holidays, service areas and phone numbers across both properties.

Practical check: Test the real mobile journey from business listing to a completed inquiry.
